Jerry Fetter - Instructor
While studying wildlife biology at The Ohio State University, he became involved in Urban Wildlife Management. Shortly after graduating with his B. S. he founded Critter Control . He was responsible for growing this company to become the largest urban wildlife management company in the world with over 120 offices, nationwide.
After several years in the corporate world, he entered Temple University 's graduate program to become certified to teach General Science and Biology. Since then he has a taught a wide variety of courses and is currently teaching at Council Rock South High School . In addition, he is the head football coach for the 9 nth grade program. He has extensive work with fundraising. After 9/11 he was recognized by Senator Clinton, Mayor Guliano, Ted Koppel, and NY Governor Pataki for extensive fundraising (over $28,000) for victim's families.
In 2004 Jerry made it to the final 50 out of 1,600 national candidates for the Teacher in Space Program at NASA. He continues his pursuit to become one of the first teachers to travel to space. He is currently working on his private pilot's license and studying Russian to apply for the next class of astronauts. He also has a strong passion for remote control model planes.
Jerry has been active with educational reform in secondary education. He works in the summer as a benchmarker and assessor for the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.
He has taught with Main High Adventure (Boy Scouts of America) as the assistant chief guide. He has also worked with Outward Bound Groups, specializing in survival courses, whitewater canoeing, and mountain climbing. In addition, he has organized and facilitated several educational trips to western geological sites in Utah , Arizona , and Nevada .
Jerry is dedicated to creating an exciting atmosphere for learning science. He is quoted in telling students to “think big!” when setting goals in life and in education. In 2001 he was nominated for a National Award by his school Superintendent for his excellence in teaching. In addition to teaching, he enjoys raising horses with his wife two children.
