Where Future Takes Flight...

Physics and Flight is a one week day camp experience on the campus of Council Rock South High School in Holland, PA (Bucks County). The camp has been designed for students passionate about science and learning how things work; but the goal is also to set a basic framework of knowledge to serve the students over their lifetime. Physics and Flight has also been designed to encourage friendships and for students to have fun learning the theory and practice of flight. Each child will help to build and learn to fly 5-foot remote controlled (RC) gas powered model airplanes. The model airplane is an outstanding tool to encourage challenge, and stimulate both science and mathematics. This approach is also a tool for students to gain a richer understanding of applied math and physics that will prove invaluable academically.

Outcomes...

Academically, after participating in Physics and Flight, students will bring a completely new skill set back to the classroom in the fall. Physics and Flight will offer boys and girls between 12-15 years of age the opportunity of optimal learning and peer-interaction in a fun filled setting.

To the Stars and Beyond...

Each day of camp will include different activities from building and flying RC model airplanes to physics lectures (supplemented by guest speakers) and computer based labs, flight simulators, and more. An excellent enthusiastic staff will create a comfortable and exciting atmosphere for students to explore outside the boundaries of the traditional classroom.

Hands on learning experiences will also be a feature of the camp including various team-building exercises. Students will collecting data during various physics experiments to a laptop computer for analysis using Vernier Probes. This will support physics concepts learned in the classroom. The Vernier probes will be used in the classroom to help perform physics labs and placed on selected RC model planes to analyze aerobatic flight.

Setting - Council Rock South High School, Newtown, PA...
